Amazon.com Product Description Do you have limited workout space but plenty of motivation? Turn to the Stamina 1205 precision rowing machine, which offers a compact footprint of only 32.5 inches wide by 48 inches long, but offers the same terrific workout as machines twice its size. The Stamina 1205 mimics the smooth motion of rowing on the water, with a padded seat that glides on a ball-bearing roller system, rowing arms whose resistance is adjusted by hydraulic cylinders, and foam grips that keep your hands stable and comfortable. The multifunction fitness monitor, meanwhile, keeps you motivated and on track to reach your fitness goals, showing your speed, distance, time, stroke count, and calories burned. And users will love the thick padded seat and pivoting footplates, which combine to provide comfort and support during your workout. Other features include a precision extruded aluminum beam, a silver steel frame, a five-year warranty on the frame, and a 90-day warranty on parts. About Rowing Rowing provides an efficient, effective, low-impact workout that utilizes all the major muscle groups, including the back, legs, arms, abdominals and buttocks. It is also one of the best exercises for building a strong back, as well as one of the most effective low-impact aerobic exercises for increasing your metabolism. As a result, you can efficiently burn calories and fat without impacting your joints. The continuous, non-impact movement of rowing can be broken down into three phases: the starting point is called the catch phase, followed by the drive phase, the finish, and the recovery. In the catch phase, knees are bent with shins vertical and shoulders and arms reaching forward. This phase mimics the point where the oars are being placed in the water. The drive phase is initiated by the legs. As the legs extend, your arms remain straight until the knees are mostly extended. Then the elbows flex bringing the oar handles into the upper stomach. In the finish, the legs are fully extended, your shoulders are back, your elbows are flexed, and the oar handle is against the upper stomach. For the recovery, your knees don't flex until after your hands pass over your knees and your arms and shoulders reach forward to begin the catch phase again. Because rowing is an impact-free activity, it can be a lifelong form of exercise. It is always best to exercise in your target heart rate zone (70 to 85 percent of your maximum heart rate).

Worked for 1 week! September 3, 2010 C. Fischer (USA) I purchased this rower about two weeks ago to get in better shape. I am 6' 3" and weigh 200 lbs, so well within the listed limits of the machine. I am by no means strong and basically have done no consistent exercise for years, thus I would only use it on the easier settings. Although I had read negative reviews I assumed I should not be overly concerned as I only needed use of the rower for about 6 months as I am moving overseas. I figured I did not need amazing quality- just something that won't fall apart in the next 6 months. After using the machine 30 minutes a day for only 1 week the shocks began to give way after they warmed up. This would mean that after exercising for 15 minutes there would be no tension in the handle bars and thus eliminating any effective use of the machine for exercise. I am disappointed with this product and would return it if I could but I believe my only option is to contact Stamina's customer service and have the faulty parts replaced- at my shipping expense. I will now contact them by email with a link to this review and see what happens. I'll keep you posted.
Great Product August 20, 2010 Carrie Pretty easy to put together. You just need to remember the instructions on part are right side up and you have to put it together upside down. Didn't take long and it works great. You are going to have occasional squeaks. No big. Resistance is easy to set. I recommend this product for the money.
Well built and well designed machine August 15, 2010 William E. Holloway I was skeptical but hopeful - hopeful won out. This rower is solid, smooth, and comfortable. Works fine for me. Assembly went well with only minor moments of brain freeze. After two weeks I threw the box in the dumpster because I knew this rower is a keeper. I was pleased to find that it leans against my wall conviently when not in use.
shocks last only 3 months July 31, 2010 solemn one 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Worked well at the beginning but both shocks lost tension in little over 3 months of regular use. Manufacturer charges full price for replacement because warranty is only 3 months. Overall quality and durability not up to mark expected from exercise equipment.
some good, some bad July 26, 2010 JLJr The machine works well and is easy to adjust. It is comfortable. It has not been particularly durable. The first week I had it, one of the hydraulic devices broke loose from the frame. Stamina replaced it with no problem. After a few more uses, one of the four wheels the seat rides on "flat-spotted". It will cost me 25 bucks to get replacement wheels. I don't use it a great deal, so I kind of wonder how well it would hold up under really aggressive, frequent use. Still, since it is so inexpensive, I guess you get what you pay for.
